Joe G. Riley was a Tennessee trial and appellate court judge for a total of twenty-six years. As a trial judge for eighteen years near Reelfoot Lake in Lake and Dyer Counties, he tried several capital cases and imposed the death penalty in murder cases. As an appellate court judge for almost eight years, he authored and participated in numerous death penalty opinions. His fictional writing is filled with mystery and suspense and is based upon his personal experiences as a judge. Unlike most books, much of the novel is written from a judge’s perspective. His novel appeals to the general public, as well as to lawyers and judges.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Tennessee and an honors graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law. He has been married to his wife, Connie, for forty-seven years. They have three sons and five grandchildren. He and his sons are avid waterfowl hunters and outdoorsmen.
